In 1881 in Japan, Seiko was founded by Kintaro Hattori. He started a clock shop in Tokyo and soon it grew to be one of the most renowned watch brands today!

The first wristwatch came on the market years later and was unique because Seiko produced all the components in the watch itself. In 1934, Seiko's success spread beyond the Japanese borders and Seiko's mechanical wristwatches took over the world. This mechanism in the watch set the tone for all the watches we know today. In the late 1960s, in 1969, Seiko's first Quartz watch came out. A watch that set a new industry standard in the watch world. After Seiko released the patents a few years later, almost every watch manufacturer adopted the technology created by Seiko.

For example, Seiko keeps coming up with a new innovative wristwatch such as the Kinetic in 1988 and Spring Drive in 1999. Seiko's most recent showpiece is the Seiko Astron GPS Solar that was introduced in 2012.
