Seiko was founded in Japan in 1881 by Kintaro Hattori. He started a clock shop in Tokyo and it soon grew into one of the most renowned watch brands today!
The first wristwatch came onto the market years later and was unique because Seiko produced all components in the watch itself. In 1934, Seiko's success spread beyond Japanese borders and Seiko mechanical wristwatches took over the world. This mechanism in the watch set the tone for all watches we know today. At the end of the 1960s, in 1969, the first Quartz watch from Seiko was released. A watch that set a new industry standard in the watch world. After Seiko released the patents a few years later, almost every watch manufacturer adopted the technology created by Seiko.
As you can see, Seiko has had a leading role in electronic and mechanical watches for many years. Seiko continues to come up with a new innovative wristwatch such as the Kinetic in 1988 and Spring Drive in 1999. Seiko's most recent showpiece is the Seiko Astron GPS Solar, which was introduced in 2012. This watch with GPS runs entirely on the energy of light thanks to efficient energy management and displays the exact correct time anywhere in the world.
