The 3 tips for caring for your watches
The watch has become an indispensable part of our wrist. Most people who have been wearing a watch for a long time are so used to it that it is very strange if you do not have one on. We all know the situation where you have forgotten to put on your watch and spend the rest of the day looking at a bare wrist whenever you want to know the time. A watch is often an investment and is available in all kinds of price ranges, models and with different functionalities and in different materials. But for every watch - cheap or expensive - the following applies: proper care of your watch is important. If you know how to best maintain your watch, it will remain beautiful and you will enjoy it for a long time. In this blog we give you three ultimate tips that ensure that your watch stays up to date.
Tip 1: Clean your watch regularly
Especially if you wear a watch often. A watch is worn on the skin. Skin oils in combination with dust and other dirt make your watch dirty. If this is not cleaned regularly, the dirt will accumulate around the watch case, between the strap or where the strap is attached to the watch case. Not only is this unhygienic, it can also make the watch wear out faster. It can also make it more difficult for us to replace the battery if there is dirt around it. The watch will continue to look good for longer if you – when you see dirt accumulating – brush away the excess dust with an old (clean) toothbrush and wipe your watch with a cleaning cloth.
Tip 2: Don't skip the service
Especially watches from renowned brands and with automatic or mechanical movements need a service every now and then. During a service, the watch is completely checked by experts, so that any problems can be detected early and possibly solved. The watch is also cleaned, the gasket checked and thoroughly tested for water resistance. If the watch works on a battery, this is also replaced. This way, you can enjoy your watch for a long time.
Tip 3: Never replace the battery yourself
Replacing the battery in a watch is a delicate job. We have had customers in the store who opened their watch themselves and checked whether they could replace the battery themselves. As soon as a watch has been opened, it can no longer be called water-resistant. Partly for this reason, it is wise never to replace the battery yourself, but always to take it to a jeweler. The battery will then be replaced with the correct one, the gasket will be checked. As soon as the watch is then closed, the water resistance will be checked immediately. These are things that you cannot possibly do yourself, because a jeweler has the right tools to do this properly.
